Munch’s Winter Studio is the building where Munch worked during the winters. This is the only building that remains after him at Ekely.
The building has three studio spaces, and these are used all-year-round by visual artists.
As a professional artist you can rent a studio on a monthly basis.
This happens through an application process for the following year. A call for applications is sent out every June.
The application deadline is September 1 every year, and the application form opens on August 1.
In the application form you state which studio and which months you wish to rent.
It is a criterion that you work professionally as an artist. Both Norwegian and international artists can apply. The rental agreement only applies to the studio, and does not provide housing opportunities.
The applications are processed by a jury appointed by the foundation’s board. Longer rental periods are given priority.
For 2027 the monthly rent is as follows:
The skylight studio
About 75 m² · Price NOK 11 000 per month + electricity NOK 1500 per month (another NOK 500 applies in electricy costs per extra user).
The north studio
About 40 m² · Price NOK 7 000 per month + electricity NOK 1500 per month (another NOK 500 applies in electricy costs per extra user).
The printmaking studio
About 30 m² · Price NOK 4 500 per month + electricity NOK 500 per month (another NOK 500 applies in electricy costs per extra user).
Common room
The common room has a small kitchen and a library. The room is also used by the foundation’s administration and for meetings.
