Open Studios: Sarah Pickstone & Solveig Landa

Printmaking studio and the small studio
Munch’s Winter Studio, Jarlsborgveien 14
May 30, 15-17h

Welcome to the graphic workshop and the small studio where Solveig Landa and Sarah Pickstone show what they have been working on during their stay at Ekely.

“During this time the large pear tree framed by the studio window, has quickly come into flower. I have made paintings in response to the timing of the tree, working with the idea of ‘the present’. Present in English has several meanings – to be present in time, to give a present (in this context the gift of time in this studio) and to present, to show or display (both tree and hopefully paintings).”
–Sarah Pickstone

“I use stencils cut from cardboard in series of mono prints. I explore variations and juxtapositions of shapes and motifs. I work intuitively and directly in the printing process. The motifs are abstract and simple shapes that have references to nature and man-made constructions and machines. All are visual elements in our surroundings, and I describe the contrast and tension that I observe between manufactured constructions and nature.”
